The mission of Safeguarding Species is to raise public awareness and educate the general public about efforts to safeguard wildlife and wild places.
Integrated conservation practices, known to the scientific community as sorta situ conservation (ex situ/in situ) is an integral part of current wildlife conservation practices. Such efforts to preserve imperiled species, in particular, are conducted by accredited and other reputable zoological facilities through their field work and through study of their animal ambassadors under human care.
Collectively, more people visit zoo, aquarium, and marine parks in North America and perhaps worldwide than attend all professional sporting events combined.
The vision of Safeguarding Species would be to facilitate more partnerships and collaboration between zoos and independent field conservation organizations and educate the public regarding the significance of multi-organizational programs aimed at safeguarding species in peril.
We will continue to rely on our growing celebrity coalition to help facility publicity and awareness for the global zoological park community. -Dr. Jordan Schaul
